The Essence of Sun

So I keep thinking of that Beatles song, Here Comes The Sun. I understand that George Harrisson was writing about some difficulties he was going through at that time, but I also think he may have taken a literal approach.

You see, I've been to England in the Winter. The daytime becomes a shade or two lighter than night, but by what we refer to as "afternoon", it becomes dark again. After living in this part of Washington State for over two years, I really don't see much difference between the two geographical regions.

It reminds me of some lyrics from Desperado (Eagles, 1973):

Don’t your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won’t snow and the sun won’t shine
It’s hard to tell the night time from the day
You’re loosin’ all your highs and lows
Ain’t it funny how the feeling goes away?

My sentiments exactly. Couldn't have said it better.

I just can't handle having virtually no sun for like 3/4 of the year! Seriouly, we have mainly wind, rain and a slightly illuminated sky from about early or mid October until about late June - early July. It is so dark that even with ALL the blinds and windows open, the sensors on the kids' night-lights aren't triggered. They have to be unplugged or they'll stay on all day. Day! I can't handle that anymore!

I will admit that when the sun does come out, it is one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen. Not just because it's been missed dearly; it truly is magnificent. The only thing I've seen even remotely comparable is the sunsets on the West Coast of Florida. I just love the summers here...it's warm but the air is still crisp, clean and clear. It's so nice to step out on my back patio on those summer mornings and watch sailboats stream across the harbor against the backdrop of a million colors. The nights are just as beautiful and clear. Just about every star in the sky is visible on most nights.

However, the Summers just can't make up for the long, gloomy winters. I am just so affected by it. I like Seasons, don't get me wrong, but I like four of them. Not two. If I were to live in a place that only had two Seasons, I would want it to be 1. Warm and Sunny, 2. Hot and Sunny.

I'm so glad we're moving to California! Here Comes The Sun....literally!

Sally Hansen Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pen.



This is awesome! Really...best invention since sliced bread. It's so quick and easy! No bottle to spill, put it on then slip your (open-toed) shoes on and you're good to go! It's about $7 or $8 - can be found at virtually any retail store or pharmacy.

By the way...the most fashionable nail and lip colors this year are melons, corals and oranges. I bought the orange polish, but it's not too orange. It looks more like Mary Kay's Coral Rose Lip Gloss which is really pretty.

This product has been around since I was little. I can remember my Mom using it for all kinds of things...including diaper rash and sunburn. It's really thick and rich and works wonders on any type of skin problem. Even bug bites. It's $11.

Even though it's thick and rich, it spreads easily using a small amount when skin is wet. I'll list other common and ... not so common uses...not only by me but as reported by many other people.

Of course, it isn't up to me or Mary Kay to diagnose or treat any medical condition, these are personal opinions, not medical or scientific fact.

But, now that I've got that disclaimer out of the way, I'm telling you...this really, really works. No more staying up late watching infomercials feeling bad about my skin!

- eczema
- what was thought to be (and diagnosed as) acne or rosacea, but was just extremely dry skin
- psoriasis- dry winter feet
- chapped lips/hands- under eye treatment
- dab applied over acne gel spot treatment to prevent over-drying of skin
- lip moisturizer under makeup
- if used immediately after hair removal on wet skin, will prevent rash or irritation on bikini area, underarms and legs
- hang nails and other cuticle problems
- bites from chiggers that won't stop itching!
- prevents stretch marks (according to a few people I know) - wish I would have thought of using it!
- a dab around nostril area everyday during a cold helps prevent "tissue nose"
- just used as plain lip gloss. Has a pink-ish tint and is really thick and shiny. Cheaper than most lip glosses, too. Lips don't get addicted.
